Russia Grants Asylum Political Asylum to Ex-Syrian President Bashar al-Assad

Kremlin Confirms Asylum Offer to Bashar al-Assad After Fall of His Regime

Russia Grants Asylum has granted political asylum to former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, following his ouster by rebel forces. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had decided to offer asylum to Assad after he fled Syria. Peskov did not confirm Assad’s location but stated Putin had no plans to meet with him.

Assad’s rule ended after rebels launched a surprise attack, taking control of the capital, Damascus. His departure marks the collapse of the Assad regime, which had lasted over 50 years under his family’s rule. Assad’s resignation comes after a decade of civil war that began with violent repression of anti-government protests in 2011.

Celebrations Erupt Across Syria After Assad’s Fall

The news of Assad’s ouster ignited widespread celebrations throughout Syria. Rebels cheered in the streets of Damascus, declaring the city “free” from Assad’s oppressive rule. “Syria is ours, not the Assad family’s,” many shouted in excitement.

Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, leader of the Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group, hailed the victory as “historic for the region.” In a speech at Damascus’ Umayyad Mosque, he congratulated the rebels for their successful offensive.

Statues Toppled and Prisoners Freed as Rebels Celebrate Victory

Rebels celebrated by toppling statues of Hafez al-Assad, Bashar’s father, and marking the end of decades of Baathist control. “This is the end of 50 years of oppression and 13 years of crimes,” they proclaimed. Residents toured Assad’s former palace, now stripped of its luxury. “I can’t believe this day has come,” said one Damascus resident, Amer Batha. “We’ve waited so long for this moment.”

As part of the victory, rebel groups reported freeing prisoners, including those held at the notorious Sednaya prison, known for its human rights abuses under Assad’s regime.
