Several areas in Varthur, Hebbal, and Kadubeesanahalli experienced traffic congestion due to heavy downpours. Regions housing major tech companies, such as Manyata Tech Park on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and tech hubs like Sarjapur, were also affected. The Hebbal flyover towards KR Puram was temporarily closed to traffic until the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) announced that the waterlogging had been cleared. Waterlogging was also addressed at Allasandra Main Road near the BBMP swimming pool in the Yelahanka zone.
The government stated that while schools and anganwadi centers in Bengaluru district will remain closed, colleges will continue to operate. However, principals of most degree, post-graduate, diploma colleges, and ITIs have been given guidelines to ensure student safety.
Most schools have been instructed to conduct online classes for higher grades, while lower-grade students have been assigned homework to complete at home.
In response to the heavy rains across Bengaluru, the BBMP has established 24/7 exclusive control rooms in its eight zones and launched a helpline number (1533) to report rain-related issues.
The heavy rainfall also caused the uprooting of trees, leading to the temporary closure of Ashoka Pillar Road due to a fallen tree blocking the road.
According to the India Meteorological Department, a low-pressure area that formed over the Bay of Bengal triggered the widespread rainfall. The IMD has issued a yellow alert, indicating worsening weather conditions that could disrupt daily life, for the districts of Tumakuru, Mysuru, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kolar, Shivamogga, and Chikkaballapura, in addition to coastal Karnataka.
